The Barclays Premier League- Ones To Watch

As always by the time the Barclays Premier League kicks off on August 14th, fans excitement levels will have reached fever pitch. Much of this is usually down to the new signing. The great thing about football & sport in general & why so many of us are hooked on it is the fact that you always get that second chance to put things right, & the new marquee signing is always a shining light of hope to fans of the club in question that this might just be their year.

So who are the new players that are aiming to take the new season by storm &, in my opinion have a great chance in doing so. Below i've chosen 3 players who I believe have the ability, desire & right club to make a big impact in the coming 9 months.

Javier Hernandez, above (Manchester United)

At 22 years old Javier Hernandez or 'Chicharito' (nickname meaning 'little pea' due to him being the son of former mexican player Javier Hernandez senior) will be seen as relatively inexperienced & young to be making the huge leap in standards & expectation from mexican side Guadalajara to one the worlds most famous clubs in Manchester United. Sure this may be the case & we must not also forget the fact that the cultural difference & climate may play a part in it taking time for him to settle in but from noises coming out of Old Trafford, this razor sharp forward may just take everyone by surprise earlier than anticipated. Already dubbed the new 'ole solskjaer' by Paul Scholes, Hernandez game is certainly suited to the Premier League. He's lightning fast, has great movement around  the box & certainly has a nack at being in the right place & knowing where the back of the net is. His goals in pre-season of course do not gurantee goals in the premiership but to help a young player, especially one coming to a new league, this would of certainly given him lots of confidence. With the likes of Scholes, Giggs, Nani & Valencia not to mention Rooney or Berbatov if Sir Alex decides to employ 2 strikers instead of his more recent preference to 4-5-1 providing him opportunitys, Hernandez will have plenty of chances & if he can get off to a good start (a scrappy finish like the one at Wembley will be perfect!) then he could really make an impact like this year.

David Silva, below (Manchester City)

The Spanish international, signed in June from Valencia arrives with a big reputation & I think he is going to be a driving force in city's mission to land domestic honours this season. The 24 year old first coming to real prominence at the European championships in 2008, Silva was instrumental in providing the flair alongside his then club team mate David Villa to complement Fernando Torres up front in what was Spain's first ever major tournament win. Clever in his movement, touch & vision, it was only a matter of time before Europe's heavyweights snapped him up, especially with Valencia's very well documented financial problems. Although at this years succesfull Spanish World cup Silva didnt feature as much as in 2008, this was more down to the incredible strength in depth of Vicente Del Bosque's squad than Sillva's lack of form or talent. One thing is for sure though, if there is a slight personal disappointment on his part due to this summers lack of game time, premier league defences must surely be wary of the backlash & desire of Silva to make a great start at his new club.

Jermaine Beckford, below (Everton)

A slightly different player in terms of experience & pedigree you may say & at 26 Beckford is not exactly fresh off the block but I think 2010/2011 is going to be a big season for the former Leeds United front man. Having spent 4 years at the yorkshire club & scoring a massive 72 goals in just 126 games, the time was right for Beckford to take the leap to Englands elite league. Many will point to the fact that he is not yet proven at Championship level let alone the Premier League but  I would highlight the fact that his 3 performances against Man United in the F.A cup (Beckford scored the winner & caused havoc all afternoon in a 1-0 win) & the 2 spurs matches where he scored a last minute penalty to secure the replay as ample proof he has the ability & almost as important the mentality to succeed at the top club level. In David Moyes Beckford also has the perfect manager to work under & if the scot can work his magic like he has done on numerous other bargain signings down the years, then a big season is in store for the toffees & the London born striker himself.
